New partnership joins asset management with systems modeling for customized predictive maintenance in the energy sector.
Engineers at the systems simulation software company Modelon and the consulting company Iquant are offering energy producers end-to-end digital twin of their power plants. The purpose of the digital twins would be to help support the predictive maintenance and asset management of the plant. The offer comes shortly after the simulation and consulting companies announced a strategic partnership in the energy infrastructure space.
The two companies note in a joint release that most predictive maintenance solutions in this space do not include the physical modeling of critical parts of the energy production systems. This can affect the accuracy of the maintenance timelines these tools produce. By combining Iquant’s asset management expertise with the cloud-based systems modeling and simulation platform Modelon Impact, the pair hope to offer stronger predictive maintenance solutions.
Cristian Solís Calderón, partner at Iquant Consulting, said of Modelon, “Their projects in physics-based system simulation are extremely innovative and of a level that can compete with anyone. This works perfectly with our knowledge of industrial operations, our innovative drive and the needs of our customers that exist in the maintenance area to have early warnings of failure. We’re here to deliver one of the best solutions that exist in the market for asset health monitoring.”
Modelon Impact would be used to model the physical systems of the power plant. This would include the fluid dynamics, heat transfer and mechanical dynamics of each process. To do this, consultants from Iquant would assess the customer’s assets and assist them in building the simulation models. Iquant can then process the simulation data in its PRODIGIO software to predict failures. The team would also offer licensing, training and consulting of the custom-made digital twin software. This would include quantifying the effectiveness of the software and improving its performance over time.
“We know Modelon Impact can significantly improve engineering innovation of industrial systems, from the design phase through deployment and maintenance,” said David Higbie, chief commercial officer at Modelon. “Iquant Consulting brings expert domain knowledge and a track record of success delivering digital twin solutions for their commercial customers. Together we can advance the benefits of system simulation within the energy industry.”
