New Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitors are Easy on the Eyes—Certifiably

The 27-inch computer screens are the first ever to receive a 5-star Eye Comfort certification from TÜV Rheinland.

Staring at computer screens is unavoidable for engineers today, but it doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. Crisp resolutions, accurate colors and high refresh rates all make for nicer displays, but Dell is taking eye comfort even further with its launch today of two new UltraSharp monitors.

The Dell UltraSharp 27 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor and Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor are the first computer screens to receive the new Eye Comfort star-rating certification announced today by TÜV Rheinland. Both monitors achieved the highest possible rating of 5 stars.

“Features like good image quality, high refresh rate and good ambient light management, such as intelligent brightness and CCT adaptation to ambient light, help reduce visual fatigue,” Stanley Liu, display certification expert from TÜV Rheinland, said in a press release. “For example, the higher the refresh rate, the smoother the image and the higher the eye comfort and the corresponding score.”

Dell’s new 27-inch UltraSharp monitors provide a 120Hz refresh rate, the minimum required to achieve a 5-star Eye Comfort rating. But that’s just one of 15 test categories, according to TÜV Rheinland, and a screen must score a 5-star rating in all of them to get 5 stars overall.

The Dell UltraSharp 27 monitors have other features that earned them top Eye Comfort scores. The screens have a built-in ambient light sensor, which monitors lighting conditions to automatically adjust the screen’s brightness and color settings. They’re also equipped with an improved version of ComfortView Plus, a feature that reduces exposure to blue light. TÜV Rheinland says that reducing blue light can help reduce visual fatigue. The new UltraSharp monitors also have a high resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and high color gamut support (100% sRGB, 98% DCI-P3).

In addition to the new 27-inch monitors, Dell also announced two new 24-inch monitors: the Dell UltraSharp 24 USB-C Hub Monitor and Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor. TÜV Rheinland gave these screens a 4-star Eye Comfort rating.

The Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor will cost $479.99 and the Dell UltraSharp 27 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor will cost $649.99, according to Dell. Both computer screens will be available on November 9, 2023 along with the Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor ($379.99) and Dell UltraSharp 24 USB-C Hub Monitor ($459.99).
