The new version also supports increased supply chain resilience and agility by reporting and measuring KPIs across multiple sites.
Industrial software developer Aveva has released the latest version of its AVEVA Manufacturing Execution System 2023, which now supports multi-site manufacturing execution system (MES) solutions.
Automated production processes and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices collect data at the “edge” of each plant and send it to a centrally deployed corporate MES.
“The new AVEVA Manufacturing Execution System 2023 release enables the business to drive digital transformation simultaneously and consistently across multiple connected plants. It will provide a single version of the truth and promote agile supply chain management. In the post-pandemic era, manufacturers’ success will be defined by their ability to be agile and resilient in the face of change,” said Keith Chambers, vice-president, operations management software at Aveva.
The newest version handles worker shift management and includes security enhancements to support multi-site MES data center deployments across different time zones, languages and cultures.
“Amid a backdrop of continued disruption and rising costs, our customers are under pressure to close the business to plant collaboration gap and improve the efficiency of their manufacturing networks,” said Chambers in a release.
The global MES market was worth about $12.54 billion in 2021, with industrial consulting firm BlueWeave estimating it will almost double to $24.8 billion by 2028.
BlueWeave says the MES market is driven by rising awareness about modern security concerns, as well as increased need for well-connected manufacturing supply chains. A greater emphasis on digital transformation fueled by cloud-based services, mobility and parallel data processing is pushing the development of MES systems. However, inefficiency due to high installation and running expenses, rigorous regulations, and a lack of understanding about MES among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are still impacting new implementations.
Headquartered in Cambridge, U.K., Aveva has recently completed its acquisition by Schneider Electric, an industrial company specializing in digital automation and energy management. The $12 billion deal was approved by Aveva shareholders in November 2022 and cleared by the U.K. government in December 2022.
