Parker-Hannefin’s Linda Caron on air system safety for workers and for legal compliance.
Safety in pneumatically driven automation used to be about guarding and lockouts. While it used to be adequate to occupy a worker’s hands with series configured solenoid or pilot operated valves, today’s systems require safety that is both fail-safe and compliant to both industry and regulatory standards. Controlling trapped energy in pressurized air is an excellent alternative to mechanical stops in moving equipment. Parker-Hannefin global product manager, functional safety, Linda Caron explains the methodology to Jim Anderton at Automate 2023.
